Sister Dolores Wisniewski, C.I.J., president of the Congregation of the Infant Jesus also known as the Nursing Sisters of the Sick Poor of Brooklyn, died on Jan. 14, following a battle against cancer for more than 20 years.
She served in leadership positions throughout her entire religious life and was elected president of the Congregation in 2009. She was re-elected in 2012 and was starting the third year of her term in office.
She began her ministry in Catholic health care in 1967 as a staff nurse in the Nursing Sisters Home Visiting Service.
She spent 33 years in home care and was the vice president of patient care and mission of Catholic Home Care when she was called to leadership in 2000.
The Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Jan. 19 at Villa St. Joseph, Rockville Centre, L.I.
