St. Bartholomew, Elmhurst, recently began a free indoor youth soccer program in the parish gymnasium. More than 70 young athletes signed up to play within the first two weeks.
The program is organized by Father Humberto Bravo, parochial vicar, who also coaches one of the teams.
Games are played Saturdays in the gym and are attended by numerous volunteers.
The teams are named after notable international soccer clubs, including Chelsea, Juventus, Manchester United, Barcelona and Real Madrid. The tournament’s results are updated each week in the parish bulletin.
