Joseph Fattarusso, a senior at St. Edmund Prep, Homecrest, received the New York Blood Center Scholarship.
The scholarship is given to a student who exemplifies community service and volunteerism in the organization of a high school blood drive. Fattarusso has donated blood or red cells six times since the age of 16.
Kathy DeMello, R.N., school nurse, nominated this young man because “he helped make the drives a success.”
“Joe hung posters, encouraged students to donate, collected sign-up sheets and visited homerooms to explain the importance of donating blood,” DeMello said. “He did all of this with a wonderful smile and sense of humor.”
