NET-TV’s original documentary “Shelter in the City” has been accepted at the 13th Annual Vail Film Festival to take place April 7-10 in Vail, Colo. The entry marks the first time a NET-TV production will be featured at a major film festival.

“Shelter in the City” is a 90-minute eye-opening documentary on homelessness in New York City, which in recent years has reached an all-time high in the metropolitan area. According to the advocacy group Coalition for the Homeless, as of January 2016, there were 60,296 homeless people in the city, the highest level ever recorded since the Great Depression.

“The heart of ‘Shelter in the City’ involves a father trying to save his mentally ill son who has been living on the streets for more than a year,” said Terence Donnellan, the documentary’s director and producer. “Although their lives were full of heartbreak and desperation, they wanted to share their experience so that others might not have to live through the same despair. It is my privilege to tell the story of Ken Murray Sr. and Ken Murray Jr. in the hope that we may find a way to end this horrible affliction.”

The documentary will be screened at the Vail Film Festival on Friday, April 8 at 6:30 p.m. MT (8:30 p.m. EST) and on Sunday, April 10 at 12 p.m. MT (2 p.m. EST). NET-TV will air “Shelter in the City” simultaneously both days.
