Dear Editor: Though I read with interest the letters of Father Mark Kaczmarski and Clara Sarocco (March 11) criticizing Martin Scorsese’s film “Silence,” I have a completely different reaction and evaluation of the film, which I think is a masterpiece.
For mature audiences who take their Catholic faith seriously and who wish to see a demanding dramatization of the mystery of faith and of God’s loving commitment to us, the film might serve as a cinematic sacrament, a challenging channel of God’s grace.

Of course you do. When have you ever faulted anti-Catholic bigotry for anything? When have you ever considered the murderous damage done by anti-Catholic bigotry?
Why do you continue to print Mr. Castello’s comments? I certainly hope that Father Lauder replies.
