The following was issued by the Diocese of Brooklyn and was read at all Masses at Good Shepherd Church, Marine Park, on Sunday, May 26.

The Diocese of Brooklyn was recently informed that the grand jury reviewing the complaints against Msgr. Thomas Brady has decided not to pursue a criminal indictment against him.

In light of this, and following the directions of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith in Rome, Msgr. Brady has been removed from administrative leave.  Taking into consideration his diminishing health, however, he remains restricted from public ministry.

As a Diocese, we remain concerned for the well-being of those who made the allegations against Msgr. Brady, and request that they be treated with dignity and respect.  This has indeed been a challenging time for everyone involved, the young boys who presented the allegations, their families, Msgr. Brady and the entire Good Shepherd community.

Bishop Nicholas DiMarzio is committed to the protection of our youth, and takes seriously all allegations of sexual misconduct by a member of the clergy with minors, in full compliance with the United States Conference of Bishops’ Charter for the Protection of Children and Young People.
