The Tyros Drama Group from Msgr. McClancy M.H.S., East Elmhurst, is gearing up to present Tim Kelly’s M*A*S*H, March 9 and 10.
M*A*S*H is the stage play written from the first three seasons of the ever-popular television show, which was the longest-running sitcom and has the most-viewed episode, the finale.
Over 40 students have been preparing since the early fall for their very funny version of this popular high school play.
This year, starring as Benjamin Franklin ‘Hawkeye’ Pierce, is Sergiu Barcaci. Barcaci is an incredibly talented actor, having played the role of Randall Patrick McMurphy in last year’s Tyros production of One Flew Over the Cockoos Nest.
Joining Barcaci on stage once again is Bryce Mengus. Mengus is a seasoned veteran of the McClancy stage having played Murray the Cop in the 2010 production of The Odd Couple as well as Harding in last year’s One Flew Over the Cookoo’s Nest.
“We have the most talented and hard-working students in this show” said Ann Smith, the director and moderator of the Tyros.
She said she feels lucky to have such a wonderful cast which includes: Joseph Harvey as Duke Forrest; Sean Tracey as Radar O’Reilly; Michael Ramirez as Col. Henry Blake; Philippe DosSantos as Father Mulcahy; and Jonathan Lacovarra as the infamous Frank Burns.
“We are blessed to have a cast of dedicated girls in leading roles,” she said.
The school has enlisted the help of female students from throughout New York City. Claire Spinetti, will perform as Margaret ‘Hot Lips’ Houlihan. She is part of the play with her classmate Ashling Marie Heenan from St. Vincent Ferrer H.S., Manhattan. Alexa Dayoan, from Christ the King R.H.S, Middle Village, and Amy Ong, from St. Agnes H.S., College Point, also are cast.
No production of M*A*S*H would be complete without Corporal Max Klinger, which is being played by T.J. Lukas, a junior at McClancy.
Smith added that Msgr. McClancy will be pleased to welcome the incoming freshman class this September, which will include female students for the first time in the school’s history. The Tyros will be evolving once again to welcome the new “Lady Crusaders.”
