Msgr. Daniel S. Hamilton, 87, a priest of the Diocese of Rockville Centre, L.I., for more than 60 years, died Feb. 18.
Born in Far Rockaway, he attended Cathedral College in Brooklyn, and Immaculate Conception Seminary, Huntington, L.I.
He was ordained May 31, 1958 at St. Agnes Cathedral, Rockville Centre.
He served the Diocese of Rockville Centre in many roles, most notably as director of public information, editor of The Long Island Catholic newspaper and director of the Pastoral Institute for Ecumenism.
In 2015, he published “Jousting with the New York Times 1961-2014: Worldviews in Radical Conflict,” a collection of more than 300 letters that he submitted to the paper from 1961 to 2015.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at the Church of Our Lady of Perpetual Help, Lindenhurst, L.I., Feb. 22.
