Dear Editor: I have to respond to A. Albanese (March 12) from Brooklyn.
I am constantly amazed at the misinterpretation that people make about the Constitution and the founding of our country. They think that Obama is a Third World dictator – I have a pen and a phone, if Congress won’t do what I want, I will do it myself.
Regarding the replacement of Justice Scalia, the president is free, under the Constitution, to make his recommendation. The responsibility of the Senate, under the Constitution, is to provide its advice and consent… or, not to approve a recommendation. They are not required to approve the president’s recommendation. It is perfectly reasonable to wait until a new president, Republican or Democrat, is elected.
