McClancy Boys Win Soccer City Title

On Saturday Nov. 9, the Msgr. McClancy M.H.S., East Elmhurst, varsity boys’ soccer team captured the N.Y.C. “A” division championship by defeating John F. Kennedy Catholic H.S., Somers, N.Y., 2-1 at Fordham University, the Bronx.

Both teams won their respective divisions, and it was a highly-anticipated matchup between the two No. 1 seeded teams.

The game was intense throughout, and after the first half, the Crusaders found themselves down 1-0.

The second half featured back-and-forth action, with both teams playing well. The score remained 1-0 late into the second half.

With 10 minutes left to play, the Crusaders evened the score when Michael Ferrara scored on a header off a corner kick from Alex Ulic.

Less than two minutes later, the Crusaders took the lead for good on a well-executed goal by Joey Mifsud.

The Crusaders held on to win 2-1 and have now won three consecutive city championships and four out of the last five.

Congratulations to the N.Y.C. champs! (pictured below)
