Four Maryknoll priests with ties to the Brooklyn Diocese are celebrating significant anniversaries this year.
Father Edward M. Wroblewski, who was born in Brooklyn, is marking his 60th anniversary of ordination to the priesthood.
He attended Our Lady of consolation School, Williamsburg; Cathedral Prep and College, Brooklyn; the Maryknoll Seminary in Ossinning, N.Y.; and Catholic University, Washington, D.C. He was ordained June 14, 1952.
He was professor of speech and director of athletics at Maryknoll College, Glen Ellyn, Ill., 1952-57.
He served as a pastor, chaplain and religious teacher in various parishes in the Musoma and Arusha Dioceses in Tanzania, East Africa, between 1957 and 1975.
Between 1975 and 1977, he did missionary education and promotion work in Polish parishes in Michigan.
From 1977 to 1999, he served on the faculty of the homiletics program at the Maryknoll School of Theology in Ossinning.
He retired in 1999 and currently resides at the Maryknoll Mission center in New York. He continues to minister at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton parish, Ridgefield, Conn., and at the Taconic Correctional Facility for Women. He also is involved in the Engaged Encounter Marriage Prep Program in Bridgeport, Conn.
Three Maryknollers are celebrating their 50th years as priests.
Father Robert A. Lilly is a native of Brooklyn, who attended St. Edmund’s School, Sheepshead Bay; Rowayton School, Rowayton, Conn.; Delbarton School, Morristown, N.J.; Maryknoll Junior College, Clark’s Summit, Pa.; Maryknoll College, Glen Ellyn, Ill.; and Maryknoll Seminary, Ossinning, N.Y.
He served in Korea from 1962 to 1994, in parishes in Pusan, and then at the order’s Regional House in Seoul, where he wrote a computer program for finances, sacramental records and family data for parishes.
Father Robert J. Lloyd, a native of Brooklyn who grew up in Woodside, is marking the 50th anniversary of his first oath as a Maryknoll missioner. He attended St. Teresa’s School, Woodside and entered the Maryknoll Junior Seminary at Clark’s Summit, Pa. He also studied at the Maryknoll College in Glen Ellyn, Ill., and the Maryknoll Seminary, Ossinning, N.Y., as well as Loyola University, Chicago.
Ordained on June 9, 1962, he served from 1962 to 1974 among the Mayan people in Mexico. He also spent a year in India and from 1995 to 2001, he worked with the Asha Deep Rehabilitation Center for the Mentally Ill in Kathmandu, Nepal.
In the U.S., he served in mission education work, 1975-84; worked in vocation direction, 1985-88; attended the Institute for Spiritual Leadership in Chicago, 1988-89; and was assistant director of the Office of Society Personnel and then its director, 1990-95.
He retired in 2001 and returned to the Maryknoll Mission Center, Ossinning, N.Y., and assisted in local parishes. He was appointed assistant to the Superior of the Retirement Community in 2002 and served two terms as Superior.
He currently is living in Brooklyn and ministers in several parishes.
Father William F. Mullan, who grew up in Brooklyn, is observing his 50th anniversary of ordination as a priest.
Born in Jersey City, N.J., his family moved to Brooklyn where he attended Good Shepherd School, Marine Park, before entering the Maryknoll Junior Seminary, Clark’s Summit, Pa. He also attended Maryknoll College, Glen Ellyn, Ill., and Maryknoll seminary, Ossinning, N.Y. He was ordained June 9, 1962.
He served as a missionary in Guatemala from 1962 to 1980.
In 1980, he was elected regional superior for the Maryknoll Society in Central America. In 1985, he was one of six Maryknoll missioners honored with the Papal Cross for his religious and social work.
Since 1998, he has been ministering in Guatemala among the Mayan Q’eqchi people.
His service in the U.S. has included work in the order’s mission promotion department, 1987-90; and as Maryknoll’s U.S. regional superior, 1991-97.
