Dear Editor: You recently posted something from Our Lady of Lebanon Maronite church in Brooklyn Heights.
The name brought some very old and find memories. We lived on Montague Street in Brooklyn Heights when I was born. My family was Irish with a bit of German, but we had a tradition of always going to Good Friday services at Our Lady of Lebanon. I do not fully know how that came to be, but I think it was at the invitation of a neighbor who belonged there and suggested that it was a good place to pray for healing and health. My older brother had a lot of difficulty with childhood asthma at the time and I think my family responded to the invitation and it became a family tradition.
That was our connection to the Maronite Rite.
