A delegation of 18 people from Local 3 electricians of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW), based in Flushing, journeyed to Padua, Italy, for a special 9/11 Memorial Mass and ceremony. Mass was celebrated in the Basilica del Carmine in Padua by Auxiliary Bishop Alberto Peloso of the Diocese of Padua. The invitation was extended by Carlo DiMassie, the president of the National Italian Electricians Union. On Sept. 11, 2001, among the 61 union construction workers killed in the terrorist attacks at the World Trade Center, 17 electricians were from Local 3. About half of them were of Italian ancestry from Brooklyn and Queens. The Italian trade unionists were showing solidarity on the 12th anniversary of 9/11.
