The Truth About Abortion

Dear Editor: According to recent polls, it seems that most Americans support abortions.

Do they really know what abortion is? It is not the removal of a blob of cells or the products of conception that many are taught. It is the killing of the most innocent of humans, the unborn baby. Life begins at conception, a scientific fact.

Yes, there are hard cases, and as a society, we have to help these women with difficult pregnancies, but there are not thousands of crisis pregnancies every year.

We say we are a civilized nation.

Are we? Since 1973, we have allowed the killing of more than 63 million unborn babies since Roe v. Wade was decided, according to the National Right to Life Committee figures.

How can anyone think it’s okay to kill a baby? Killing is against the law, so how can abortion be legal?

Columbus Day Festivities

Dear Editor: Once again, the Columbus Day Parade is an annual opportunity for all New Yorkers and many other visitors to witness the unity that occurs at such an event.

I was happy to see so many on the sidelines applauding, especially for the Diocese of Brooklyn float and the float for St. John’s University students and alumni.

Get Out the Vote

Dear Editor: Each of us, as Americans who love this country, need to take a stance this election.

In every possible way, we need to get involved. We need to volunteer where we can and assist to ensure our neighbors and friends get to the polls.

If possible and physically fit you can volunteer your services. These are just some of the things that can be done by us all.

If we take this election for granted, we will certainly live to regret it.

If we do not become honest about the fact America has lost its freedom, safety, and justice, this country is in trouble.

I realize many people would rather live with the lies and propaganda we have been subjected to by the media.

For those of you who fantasize and believe that our country is in a better place than it was three years ago, you are not being honest with yourselves.

I only hope, as Americans, that we truly take the honest approach and know that at this point we cannot live with lies.

So, America, I ask all of you to remember why this country was founded, to remember the many who died to save this nation. Let us never forget that many men and women gave their lives for our Constitution.

In conclusion, I will say let’s cut out the propaganda, the accusations, the lies, and the stupidity. If we screw up in this election our country is gone.

God bless our country.

‘Thank You’ to the KofC

Dear Editor: Last month, St. Pancras Church had a small fire which, thanks be to God, caused very little damage. The fire itself was not much of a news story.

The real story was the dedication and love shown by the parishioners and Knights of Columbus, who came out in the middle of the night to help clean up and mop up. It was a true display of community.

The story was beautifully reported on in The Tablet and on Currents News.

I want to publicly thank Currents News reporter Katie Vasquez for showing everyone the great community we have at St. Pancras.

I would also like to take the opportunity to thank our brave firefighters, who did a fantastic job carrying out their work with such respect for this holy place!

Msgr. Steven Aguggia

Editor’s note: Msgr. Steven Aggugia is the pastor of St. Pancras Parish, Glendale, and the chancellor & vicar for canonical affairs of the Diocese of Brooklyn.
