Let Them Speak: Answering My Vocational Call

By Patrice Legoute

We are all called to serve God and one another and to do something great with our many gifts and talents to bring about God’s Kingdom!

Everyone is called but not everyone will listen. I can’t help but think of Luke 11:28 that says “Blessed are those who hear the word of God and obey it”. You won’t look up and see written in the clouds “Hey, you, I want you to be a priest,” but instead God will speak to you in the silence of your heart.

For me, I personally felt God’s call become more clear at Cathedral Preparatory and Seminary School in Elmhurst.

Every Thursday I’d spend time with Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament. It was in that silence, in that peace, that I found and will continue to find comfort, strength and support!

If you hear something, say something. Go to your parish and speak to your pastor or seek guidance from a priest you’re close with to help nurture your vocation. Thankfully, I have many resources to nurture my vocation including my pastor, Father John O’Connor; Father Christopher Bethge, parochial vicar; and my second home Cathedral Prep.

Trusting in God is the greatest thing one can do. Will you listen for the call?
