St. Agnes H.S., College Point, has piloted a tutoring program with their neighboring grammar school, St. Fidelis.
Each Tuesday after school, 13 members of the St. Agnes National Honor Society volunteered their time and talents to assist St. Fidelis students in the first through eighth grades. The experience has been beneficial for both the students of St. Fidelis and the young women of St. Agnes.
As the youngsters are given the opportunity to practice their skills in reading, writing and math, St. Agnes junior Laura Williams enjoys the feeling of “making a difference in someone’s life.”
Fellow junior Michelle Coleman values the experience because she hopes to become a teacher in the future.
After spending their days in AP English Literature or Honors Chemistry, the St. Agnes tutors enjoy the time they can spend helping younger children achieve academically. The energy, enthusiasm and commitment of the tutors make the program a wonderful success.
