Holy Cross H.S. Honors Alumni Who Died on 9/11

In order to commemorate her son, Firefighter Michael Mullan, who died on 9/11, Theresa Mullan founded a scholarship for students at Holy Cross H.S., Flushing. This year’s winner is Jalen McCray, sophmore.

The scholarship is awarded to a student in the spring of his freshman year, begins with his sophomore year and follows through to senior year.

On Sept. 12, Mullan came to the high school to read the names of the 16 alumni who died on 9/11, including her son.

She also read the name of Father Francis Grogan, C.S.C. He was a teacher and chaplain at Holy Cross H.S., 1965-68, and died on the day NYC was attacked by terrorists.

The entire school observed a moment of silence at 8:46 a.m., the time the first plane hit the World Trade Center.
