Dear Editor: Thank you immensely for correcting the omission of Msgr. William Flood’s service (1986-95) in Our Lady Help of Christians, Brooklyn, in the coverage of his 60th anniversary (May 18).

Yes, we too look back on the many blessings and happy memories there. Msgr. Flood was delighted to have lived nine years in the Midwood community as he helped us grow in our perspectives on the Church, on diversity in humanity, and in the overall striving to be joyful Christian witnesses.

My fondest memories of him was as our own Cure of Ars, going up and down the blocks of East 32 St., visiting the homebound, blessing homes, scheduled counseling sessions, and supporting families in need. He was a faithful, prayerful and loving priest to all. He was humble, patient and forgiving.

In his own words, his favorite part of ministry was always “the people.” Knowing youngsters and their families, the elderly, the infirm, the immigrants, the poor, the homeless and their ways of living that were challenging. Being part of the people’s lives was Msgr. Flood’s greatest joy.

On your 60th anniversary, Msgr. Flood, the McCabe family and the good people of Our Lady Help of Christians honor you for being a dedicated and loving shepherd of God’s flock.

God bless you on this milestone of devotion and service. The Lord bless you with abundant joy, just as you have blessed us with your priestly ministry. Congratulations, Msgr. Flood, and always keep a warm place in your heart for the people of Our Lady Help of Christians.
