Fontbonne Hall Academy, Bay Ridge, marked the beginning of its 80th anniversary year with an opening of the school year Mass at St. Patrick’s Church Sept. 8.
The Mass was celebrated by Auxiliary Bishop Paul Sanchez and concelebrated by Msgrs. Michael Hardiman and Robert Romano and Father William Sweeney.
Students, teachers, administration, alumnae and several honored guests were in attendance and were welcomed by Director of Alumnae Relations Gloria Musto.
The ceremony included an inspiring liturgical dance performed by students and a procession of alumnae from as far back as the Class of 1945. Each new freshman walked with her senior sister, a testament to the long-standing tradition of sisterhood at Fontbonne.
After the Mass, Principal Mary Ann Spicijaric introduced Sister Helen Kearney, C.S.J, president of the Sisters of St. Joseph, Brentwood, who shared closing remarks.
The students joined in a spirited rendition of the school song and a reception for guests was held in the auditorium.
Fontbonne Hall Academy celebrates 80 years of preparing young women to become leaders who serve their communities with confidence and compassion.
