Flushing Resident Among Three Ordinands for Holy Cross Fathers

A native of Manhattan who grew up in Flushing will be one of three men ordained to the priesthood for the congregation of the Holy Cross on Saturday, April 6, by Bishop Daniel R. Jenky at the Basilica of the Sacred Heart, on the campus of Notre Dame University, South Bend, Ind.

Father Brian Ching was introduced to the Holy Cross Fathers while he attended Holy Cross H.S., Flushing. He attended Notre Dame University, where he earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees. He also attended the American College administered by the American bishops in Louvain, Belgium.

During his time at the Holy Cross Novitiate in Cascade, Colo., he served as a volunteer chaplain at Penrose Hospital in Colorado Springs. He also worked in the religious education program at St. Pius X parish in Granger, Ind. As a deacon, he spent a year ministering in Holy Cross’ St. John Vianney parish, Goodyear, Ariz. He currently serves as a deacon at St. Joseph parish, South Bend.

He professed his first vows with the congregation in 2008 and final vows in 2012.

Father Ching will celebrate a Mass of thanksgiving at St. Kevin’s Church, Flushing, on Sunday, April 14 at 10 a.m., and the following day at Holy Cross H.S. at 9 a.m.

Also to be ordained are Father Mark DeMott, a native of Kansas City, Mo., and Father Jarrod Waugh, who grew up in southeast Kansas.
