I’ve always had a close relationship with God, but to become even closer to him, I converted to Catholicism at St. Sebastian in Woodside, which I will always consider my home church.
Before I converted, God gave me a mission, which soon became the idea for my nonprofit, The Solution to Hunger, Inc. I could see how all the components began to fit together to create something innovative and new that could truly become the solution to world hunger. I felt like God spoke to me then. The problem was I didn’t know how to make the vision come to life. So, I got to work on what I could do.
The mission of my nonprofit is to be the program to connect the 150 billion pounds of food that goes to waste from businesses with the churches, food pantries, soup kitchens, and homeless shelters that can distribute it.
I believe God cares about each and every person who is hungry and homeless. I care, too. That’s what drives me. Since founding the nonprofit in 2018, my organization has grown to 315 partners, providing over three million meals and collecting 300,000 articles of clothing, socks, and toiletry items. I’ve also authored nine books over this time — another calling from God that supports this ministry. I give 100% of the credit and glory to God.
After years of building the program, God provided someone to help me complete the vision. Now, businesses anywhere in America can register through the website in minutes, for free, and list whenever food they have available.
Food pantries, churches, and other organizations can also register on the site for an email that will inform them when food becomes available in their area and allow them to claim it and arrange to pick it up.
I’ve been working hard on the transition, asking partners, including many Catholic food pantries, to register and begin using this groundbreaking way of connecting food that otherwise has gone to waste with those who need it. I hope this story will inspire businesses and charities to register and utilize this program to the benefit of those in need.
He is still the God of miracles. We just have to believe and never give up. And I still believe what God spoke to my heart— that one day. This ministry will provide billions of meals every year. One meal at a time.
