Father McGovern’s Joy

Dear Editor: I was very saddened to read of the death of Father Eugene McGovern.

I was one of the lucky teenagers who got to know Father McGovern at Our Lady of Angels, Bay Ridge, in the 1960s. Father McGovern and Father (now Msgr.) Michael Phillips supervised the teen club at that time.

What good, simple fun we had! The parties, putting on musical plays, dances, trips to Camp Alvernia were all moderated by those two wonderful priests. I look back at those days as some of the best years of my life.

Thank you, Father McGovern, for all that you did for the kids of OLA.

I know you are in Heaven sharing your holy, joyful, and kind presence with everyone there.
