Faith, Academics and Peace at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Academy

Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Academy is a Catholic elementary school with a diverse population that provides an engaging educational experience for grades nursery to eight, with full day nursery and pre-Kindergarten programs. The main purpose within the parish and community of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Academy is to educate the whole person in an environment that promotes a total family community. Educators create an atmosphere infused with the Gospel Spirit based on human knowledge and culture. All is accomplished with faith in the teachings of Christ.

The school community creates a Christian atmosphere infused with the Gospel spirit. Students develop a personal relationship with God and apply the hopeful message of Jesus to their daily lives. As a faith community, there is a strong Catholic identity and religion is a daily part of each student’s educational experience. All are invited to take part in family and school liturgical celebrations. There are also opportunities for peaceful reflection in the academy’s new St. Bernadette prayer room. The sacrament program is coordinated with the Parish Religious Education Program.

To bolster the success of its educational programs, Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Academy has incorporated technology into each classroom to help students become lifelong learners. Interactive whiteboards are used to raise the level of student engagement, motivate students and promote enthusiasm for learning. Through the Alive and Hope Grant and WalkAThon for Technology, iPads are integrated into the classroom so that students grow to be 21st-century learners. To encourage students to become global learners, the academy has a fully equipped technology lab. Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Academy provides instruction guided by the New York State Common Core Standards and diocesan standards.

The school provides Title I teachers in literacy, mathematics and student services, as well as a resource room to address students with academic needs. Special subject teachers provide excellent instruction in art, music, and Spanish (grades four through eight), while computer classes and physical education also receive focused attention. The Student Council adds life to the school community.

The large gymnasium at Our Lady of Lourdes is available for physical education classes and extracurricular activities. Activities available through the parish include basketball, track, swimming, and Girl Scouts. The school also provides a host of afterschool activities, including band, choir, art club and an enrichment program, giving students a chance to explore their interests outside of the classroom.
