We have all seen the painful images of devastation and heard of the deaths caused by the most recent earthquake in Haiti,” Bishop DiMarzio said. “We’ll continue to pray for them and we’ll also pledge that with the Haitian community and others, we’ll take a collection up to help — whatever we can do.”

To donate directly to the Diocese of Brooklyn’s Haiti Relief Fund, visit www.cfbq.org/haiti or send a check made payable to the COMPOSTELA FUND OF THE RC DIOCESE OF BROOKLYN (with the notation “Haiti 2021”) can be sent to the Diocesan Finance Office at 310 Prospect Park West, Brooklyn, NY, 11215.

An announcement for the second voluntary collection will be made at all Masses this weekend — Aug. 21, 22 — and/or the following weekend — Aug. 28, 29. The dates of those collections will be determined by each parish. The monies collected by the diocese will be distributed as direct assistance to those affected in Haiti.

More than 12,000 people have been injured and over 300 are still missing after the 7.2-magnitude quake on the morning of Aug. 14. Haitian Prime Minister Ariel Henry says his country is “on its knees” after Saturday’s devastating earthquake.

“I ask the Lord to extend His blessings upon our brothers and sisters in Haiti during this difficult time,” Bishop DiMarzio said.
