Dear Editor: I just saw the two-page City of Churches spread on Immaculate Conception Church in Astoria (March 4). As the N.Y. State Commander of the Catholic War Veterans and the Commander of Astoria Post 1 in the Immaculate Conception parish, I want to thank you for printing that article.

Just to let you know, the Catholic War Veterans National Board of Directors held its board meeting at Immaculate Conception Church here in Astoria on March 30.

In attendance was our National Commander Arminda Crawford, the first female commander of a national veterans’ service organization, and several state department commanders, national officers and directors.

This was the first time the national board has met here in over 50 years.
