Catholic Schools Week 2018

St. Vincent Ferrer HS

Valuing God’s Life in Each Person

St. Vincent Ferrer H.S., Manhattan, students – and hopefully, future doctors, Zoe, Joyce and Sarah – with Dr. Kumar, director of the school’s Pre-Med Advantage Program.

Saint Vincent Ferrer High School is located in a safe, accessible, quiet part of the Upper East Side of Manhattan, but its students come from all over to attend this Catholic college preparatory school.

Students travel from Connecticut, New Jersey and virtually every neighborhood in the five boroughs to be educated at Ferrer. The reason is clear: the education that they receive is worth the investment.

A Ferrer girl acquires the tools to succeed in college in a state-of-the-art building. The five floors of classrooms and the gym, in addition to the music lab, the three science labs, the art studio and the language lab are where the girls acquire the tools to succeed in college.

Ferrer students study and receive college credit in Advanced Placement English, U.S. history, European, calculus, chemistry, French, Spanish and geography. They receive college credit from St. John’s University in biology and Spanish.

Ferrer offers its girls a challenging, successful education to meet the demanding needs of today, but is based on the 800-year-old tradition of Dominican pursuit of truth through study.

Ferrer is committed to its Catholic identity. In addition to religion classes, which all students take, the school has a vibrant campus ministry, the opportunity for regular reception of sacraments, school liturgy, morning and afternoon prayer and other opportunities to grow in the faith.

Ferrer is large enough to offer options in academics and after-school activities, but small enough that each student is known and valued. Ferrer is committed to each girl who joins the school community.

Ferrer offers more than 50 extracurricular and sports opportunities, including varsity soccer, basketball, volleyball, softball, track and cheerleading; junior varsity basketball, intramural soccer and lacrosse.

Because students will live in a global world, Ferrer offers two student educational tours each year – open to all students – to sites including England and France, Italy, Greece, Spain, Peru, China, Ecuador and the Galapagos, Costa Rica and Japan.

For the most ambitious students, Ferrer offers the Scholars Program and the Pre-Med Advantage Program.

The girls in these programs have a wealth of success in college and beyond. They study organic chemistry, anatomy and physiology, and biochemistry in addition to AP chemistry. When the Scholars and the Pre-Med Advantage students graduate from Ferrer they enter some of the most prestigious colleges in the country, including St John’s University D.Pharm. program, the Sophie Davis School of Biomedical Education for a combined B.S./M.D. program, and Duke and Cornell.

Ferrer offers all of these advantages despite its modest tuition.

One student explained the reason for her coming to Ferrer in this way:

“Everybody at Ferrer is great. The teachers really know their subject material, the girls are very nice and inclusive, and the building is in a really great neighborhood. I’m so happy that I came to Ferrer.”

Over and over again, students prove that wherever you come from, Ferrer is worth the trip!
