With a century of successful alumni now working at school districts, businesses, hospitals and start-ups, St. Joseph’s College is ready to help you reach your potential. It’s no wonder Washington Monthly ranks St. Joseph’s College as the No. 9 “Best Bang for the Buck” institution in the Northeast.

Value-Oriented Education

The mission of St. Joseph’s College has little changed from the ideals of its founders in 1916: To provide a strong academic and value-oriented education at the undergraduate and graduate levels rooted in a liberal arts tradition that supports provision for career preparation and enhancement. While its award-winning education stays true to its traditional values, the college continues to add new areas of study that reflect a contemporary lifestyle and meet industry demands.

Known for its nurturing and evolving approaches to teaching and learning, as well as its commitment to excellence in academic and co-curricular programs, St. Joseph’s College is an inclusive community focused on both individual development and service to society.

For more than a decade, U.S. News & World Report has recognized St. Joseph’s College as an outstanding college in the region, placing it in the top tier of its 2018-19 rankings of Best Colleges in the North. The strong freshman retention rate and continued dedication to highly personalized instruction has helped secure its top tier placement. The college has also been recognized by the Military Advanced Education and Military Times for its commitment to providing opportunities to America’s veterans and active military.

On the college’s Brooklyn campus, what students learn in the classroom is a prologue to what they’ll experience outside of it. Located the heart of Clinton Hill, the college is in an active community surrounded by the culture, beauty and excitement of Manhattan. Campus life is rich and diverse: There is a full slate of student clubs, campus organizations, 14 NCAA Division III sports teams, and excursions in the city and surrounding area.

Real-World Internships

The college’s close proximity to Manhattan also helps facilitate internship opportunities that provide valuable, real-world experience and often lead to full-time positions. Students have interned in politicians’ offices, at Major League Baseball, Brooklyn Navy Yard, Viacom/ MTV and at leading accounting firms, including Grant Thornton LLP.

Students also participate in an ever-expanding number of service learning experiences. In 2017, the college sponsored trips to Washington, D.C. and Oklahoma, as well as Nicaragua, where students work with community stakeholders.

Through the dynamic study abroad program, there’s ample opportunity to explore other global destinations – from Italy and Ireland to Bermuda, Cuba and beyond – with short- and long-term trips that provide cross-cultural experiences beyond the classroom.
