Over 100 Years of Academic Excellence
St. Francis de Sales Catholic Academy has been serving the students of the Rockaway peninsula for over 100 years. The academy prides itself on building a firm foundation in the Catholic faith and conveying the knowledge needed to help students achieve success in high school, college, careers and beyond. Graduates go on to accomplish great things while they continue their faith-filled journey through life.
As a vibrant, thriving school community of over 550 students, the academy offers a myriad of fantastic resources within each classroom. First and foremost, a dedicated, hardworking and talented faculty boast various degrees, advanced certificates and trainings that help them incorporate the best instructional practices into their classrooms. In addition to the state-mandated curriculum and standards-based units, the academy offers Earth Science and Algebra I Regents classes, STEAM activities, Spanish in first through eighth grades and art, technology and physical education in pre-kindergarten to grade eight. A full-time special education coordinator provides differentiated small-group literacy support and handles all IESP reviews and implementation.
Students participate in various enrichment programs including Legos, Mad Science, Band, Abrakadoodle Art, Schoolhouse Chess and Balanced Kidz. Early drop off and an after school program give students opportunities to complete homework, play and socialize with friends.
In September, the academy was proud to open a brand new LabLearner STEM lab that is used by kindergarten through grade eight. There are also SMART Board technologies within each classroom, and this year, the academy continues to roll out a state-of-the-art 1:1 technology initiative in grades kindergarten through eight.
Last fall, third and fourth graders all were given iPads to use in class each day. Kindergarten through second grades will be added this spring. Each content area is facilitated through Google Classroom and are fluidly integrated with every student’s Chromebook and/or iPad.
At its core, St. Francis de Sales Catholic Academy remains a Catholic based environment. The Catholic faith guides every lesson, and Jesus Christ remains the Master Teacher.
