“We Teach With Love” is the motto of St. Bernard Catholic Academy. Located in Mill Basin/Bergen Beach, the academy educates students to reach their full potential. Students thrive academically, spiritually, socially and emotionally.
The academy aims to prepare students for their future. Faculty is well educated and either NYS certified or in the process of obtaining that certification. Continuing education keeps them abreast of the latest learning trends and the implementation of quality programs in the academy.
A rigorous curriculum rooted in the standards of New York State and the Diocese of Brooklyn prepares students to be lifelong learners. Children learn to think critically and work collaboratively in an academic climate that encourages learning, creative expression, and personal growth.
St. Bernard students consistently score above the state, city and diocesan averages on standardized tests. Regents classes in math and science are available for qualified students in grade eight. Students in grades five, six and seven have the opportunity to participate in an accelerated level humanities class. An extended writing program is available for students in grades one through four. Students in all grades who need extra assistance in learning receive supplementary services so that they too can excel.
Technology is indispensable in today’s world. The academy’s state-of-the-art technology lab is utilized by all students. A one-to-one digital device program has been implemented in grades five through eight. A newly installed LabLearner STEM (science, technology, engineering, math) lab is utilized by all students from junior pre-kindergarten through grade eight. A fine arts curriculum in both music and art round out the curriculum. Over 30 different extracurricular activities meet the social and emotional needs of students.
St. Bernard Catholic Academy is a Christ-centered community of learners. In addition to the core academic program, students are becoming leaders in their faith. They are challenged to make sound moral decisions and receive the necessary faith knowledge to make those decisions.
