Empowering Students to Be Future Leaders

Last September, Our Lady of Grace Catholic Academy in Gravesend welcomed a new principal, Mrs. Kelly Wolf. With a decade of experience as a director of religious education, she arrived ready to continue the mission of Our Lady of Grace, while working to bring about some exciting changes.

To date, Our Lady of Grace Catholic Academy has added:

• Early morning drop off and late pick up; three days a week it is free for students in kindergarten through grade eight

• Robotics Club

• Chess Club

• Coding

• Academic intervention for New York State testing

• Morning and recess study hall

• School-wide SMART Boards

• “Tech Time” course with iPads for kindergarten and first grade; Chromebooks for second through eighth grades

• Hands on community service projects

• Drawing Club

• Puzzle Club

Our Lady of Grace recently launched a new Technology Lab. Students will have the opportunity to utilize Chromebooks, iPads, SMART Boards, robotics and a new 3D printer. Upper school students are working on and further developing their coding skills.

In a world of technology, that changes at a fast pace, the academy strives to meet these changes and works to ensure tudents are well acclimated and prepared to utilize and understand technology in all aspects of learning.

All month long students have been working on a STEM challenge to present at the academy’s Catholic Schools Week STEM Fair. Students are excited and engaged in the STEM program.

The academy’s goal is to help develop well-rounded students, who are excited about learning and meeting new challenges in a faith-based environment. The academy believes in discovering every child’s talent beyond their strong classroom performance.

Our Lady of Grace students score significantly above national averages on standardized testing. These test scores, along with classwork and projects, reflect students’ discipline, motivation, responsibility and creativity.

The academy’s teachers are qualified professionals committed to bringing out the best in their students as they grow in their own knowledge, skills and values. They are role models who share their faith, their talents and their time with the entire academy community.

Students are taught to understand that each person is unique and valuable, and the academy strives to create a special bond among students, the home, the school and the church – so that all share the strong sense of community that is unique to Our Lady of Grace Catholic Academy. A vital aspect of this community is mutual respect among students, faculty and administration, as is a no-bullying policy.

The academy strives for students to feel safe and cared for in an environment that many view as their second home, while pushing them to reach their potential.
