Citi Field, Flushing, will be celebrating its sixth Opening Day on March 31, but it turns out that the first at-bat was recorded by a member of the St. John’s University, Jamaica, Red Storm baseball team.
The Johnnies took on Georgetown University, Washington, D.C., in the first-ever game played on the new field on March 29, 2009.
St. John’s center fielder Brian Kemp, pictured below, flew out to left field to lead off the game, registering the ballpark’s first official at-bat.
