Dear Editor: Without getting involved in a (tired) Democrat-Republican fight on social policy (Readers’ Forum, April 7), a long hard look at Catholic social teaching will reveal an unstinting progressive attitude in matters of social thought.
That teaching unwaveringly extends from Pope Leo XIII to Pope Francis’ recent exhortation. It’s hard to imagine how conservative thinking can miss the clear and consistent progressive position.
My guess is that Catholic preaching – from cardinals and bishops to local pulpits – has largely ignored Catholic social teaching which can be found in any number of inexpensive paperback collections.
