The New York City Chapter of the National Football Foundation (NFF) held its inaugural “Elite Eleven” scholar-athlete award banquet March 21 at the Down Town Association in lower Manhattan.
St. Francis Prep, Fresh Meadows, head varsity football coach Vince O’Connor received the 2013 Accorsi Award, named for former New York Giants’ general manager Ernie Accorsi.
O’Connor completed his 59th season at the helm of the L’il Terriers program this past fall and has amassed 333 career wins, which makes him one of the winningest football coaches in the country.
The NFF also selected 11 exceptional scholar-athletes to be recognized for both their athletic and academic successes in their four years playing football in New York City.
Seniors Anthony DiPasquale from Holy Cross H.S., Flushing, and Steven Wasserfall from St. Francis Prep each received a $1,000 scholarship and a commemorative plaque.
