St. Bernard’s parish kicked off the Christmas season in Mill Basin with Mass on Gaudete Sunday, followed by a concert, blessing of the creche, tree lighting and a visit from Santa Claus. Msgr. Jamie Gigantiello, pastor, was the celebrant and host. Entertainers included Sister Cristina Scuccia, O.S.U., Italian singing star; Charlie Romo; NET-TV personality Anthony Mangano, and the children from St. Bernard’s Catholic Academy, the religious education program and the parish Girl Scouts. St. Bernard’s was one of 30 parishes participating in Brooklyn’s Festival of Lights celebration of Christmas sponsored by Maimonides Medical Center.
