Christ Is Risen Art Contest 2015

Students from Brooklyn and Queens sent entries of all shapes and sizes for The Tablet’s annual Christ Is Risen Easter Art Contest. In all, nearly 1,400 entries were submitted by student-artists representing more than 50 schools and parishes.

Every piece of art was evaluated on artistic ability and, more importantly, how well the artist depicted the spirit of Easter. Judges from DeSales Media Group, the parent company of The Tablet, cast their votes and the artwork with the most votes won. The Archbishop John Hughes Knights of Columbus Council No. 481 hosted an award ceremony at their council in Dyker Heights to present the winners with certificates, medals and checks. Winners and honorable mentions are listed below.

The winners are pictured with, back row, from right, Tablet Editor Ed Wilkinson, Deputy Grand Knight Agostino Iallonardo, Grand Knight Vincent Gentile and Father Guy Sbordone, Knights’ associate chaplain.

  1. Dear Art Contest Committee, After First Communion Mass at St. Charles Borromeo Church, The pastor, Fr. Doran, challenged us to be fruitful vines( Following Papal directive about no boring homilies!) and read up about our church, take a Tablet Home and read it! How could you deny such enthusiasm? Remembered the TABLET from visiting my Aunt Anne in Bellerose years ago! Enjoyed the paper and especially the article on contest. Reminded me of Hallmark Contests of ancient times. Wondered if Diocese was going to make Easter Cards or Note paper with winning artwork. While liking them all, the Second Place by Miss Park really was eye catching…her work truly caught the wonder of that great moment. Just a thought about the note paper( or calendars!), a shame not to share all that inspiration! Sincerely, MM Curran, Danbury, CT
