Changes in Williamsburg

Dear Editor: I enjoyed the article (New Church Will Bring New Life to B’klyn Parish, Feb. 13) about the revitalization of SS. Peter and Paul Church – so many changes!

Many of us have fond childhood memories about this church. Although we were parishioners of Our Lady of Consolation, an adjacent parish in Williamsburg, many local children, both boys and girls, used the gym at SS. Peter and Paul. It was the only local church with an indoor gym.

My brother Robert Malina, Bay City, Texas, sent me this photo (below) taken in the late 1940s.

  1. Was this church on N. 6th St. across from the old St. Francis Prep? If so, it’s original altar now graces Holy Name Church in Park Slope.
