Swim Strong Event Teaches Water Safety
While all sports aid in the development of the body, mind and soul, swimming is the only sport that can directly save lives. In honor of National Water Safety Awareness Month, the local Swim Strong Foundation hosted its fourth annual Water Safety Awareness Day.
CHSAA Hall of Fame 2016
The local CHSAA hosted its 31st annual golf outing and Hall of Fame Dinner May 5 at the Inwood Country Club, L.I. Six new inductees made up the Class of 2016.
SJC Senior Named Skyline Conference’s Player of the Year
Brian Luebcke, a graduate of Msgr. McClancy H.S., East Elmhurst, was named the Skyline Conference’s Player of the Year as a member of the St. Joseph’s College Brooklyn, Clinton Hill, baseball team.
Students Win at Futures’ Golf Outing
The event raised over $300,000, providing scholarships to students attending Catholic grammar schools in Brooklyn and Queens.
Hoops Old-Timers Delight in Memories of the Game
The Basketball Old-Timers of America hosted its 57th annual Hall of Fame induction ceremony and dinner May 6 at Sirico’s Caterers in Dyker Heights. Nine new members were enshrined for their basketball accomplishments.

Local Schools Net New Girls’ Lacrosse League
The number of local diocesan girls’ lacrosse teams increased three-fold. So far, the new league has provided a learning experience for the TMLA, St. Edmund Prep and Bishop Kearney teams to understand a new sport.
