CHSAA Hall of Fame 2016

The local CHSAA hosted its 31st annual golf outing and Hall of Fame Dinner May 5 at the Inwood Country Club, L.I. Six new inductees made up the Class of 2016.

Paul Gilvary began coaching junior varsity basketball at Cathedral Prep and Seminary, Elmhurst, as a 19-year-old. He went on to coach junior varsity and varsity basketball and soccer at Holy Cross H.S., Flushing.

His varsity soccer teams won nine diocesan championships, six city championships and two state championships. His varsity basketball teams won two diocesan championships and a city and state championship in 2007. He was named basketball Coach of the Year four times.

He currently serves as the CHSAA soccer and basketball chairman in addition to his responsibilities as a baseball umpire and baseball umpire assignor.

D’Ottovino

Jim D’Ottavio has spent the past 26 years as the head varsity swimming coach at Xaverian H.S., Bay Ridge. He also spent 15 years as the school’s freshman swim coach.

In addition to compiling a 133-133 varsity record, D’Ottavio has coached 18 National Interscholastic Swim Coaches Association (NISCA) Academic All-Americans, four CHSAA city champion swimmers and a NISCA Swimming All-American.

He’s a four-time CHSAA Coach of the Year and has won five divisional championships and two ‘B’ Division city championships. He’s also served 11 years as the CHSAA’s swimming chairman.

Pat Dormer (Xavier H.S., Manhattan, track coach and chair), Dave Graham (Sacred Heart H.S., Yonkers, N.Y., CHSAA official), Vic Quirolo (Iona Prep, New Rochelle, N.Y. / Archbishop Stepinac H.S., White Plains, N.Y., basketball, football) and Gordon Rugg (St. Joseph by the Sea, Staten Island, baseball) rounded out the hall of fame class.
