Prayer, Service Help Queens’ Youth Prepare for WYD

Young people from St. Bartholomew Church, Elmhurst, spent a weekend retreat focused on being Christ to others in preparation for this year’s World Youth Day in Poland. The young adults – who are part of the 400 pilgrims from the Diocese of Brooklyn going to World Youth Day (WYD) in Krakow July 26-31 – are preparing their hearts through service and prayer.

Student Films Win Project Hope Contest

Five students from Holy Cross H.S., Flushing, won this year’s Project Hope Contest for their self-produced films. Sponsored by the Brothers of Holy Cross, Moreau Province in Austin, Texas, this year’s contest yielded 750 entries from all 12 Holy Cross schools within the nation.

Youth Views: Who is your inspiration and why?

My inspiration is my father because he keeps on pushing me to become a better person academic-wise and also athletically. It’s hard to keep up grades while playing sports weekly, but my dad tells me the only way I will get better is to practice and study hard.

Teen Newsflash: Summer Academy

St. Francis Prep’s Summer Academy runs July 25-29, 9 a.m. to 3p.m. It offers courses in: Science research, English and math, music technology, computer and fine arts, musical theater, SFP-TV production and video game design.
