Ramon Quinn Ramirez’s letter (Sept. 12) was only partially correct. Our ancestors had a hard time. The difference is that they came here legally and if they couldn’t make it here, they returned home.

Love in Sheepshead Bay
Dear Editor: My very good friend just celebrated his 90th birthday. I wanted to do something special since he is so very special and I thought a special thing would be to declare my admiration in “The Tablet” since he is a faithful reader and devout Catholic.
A Friend to the Haitians
Dear Editor: A friend of the Haitian refugees has passed. In the 1980s, Father Peter W. Zendzian assisted Haitian refugees resettled by the office for the Pastoral Care of Migrants and Refugees (PCMR) of USCCB and Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Brooklyn at the Diocesan Migration Office of Brooklyn and later at PCMR in Washington, D.C.
Catholics: Examine Your Vote
Dear Editor: Election Day is fast approaching. Is there any hope that the Catholics in this diocese will finally wake up and take religion and traditional morality seriously of a change? Two things are necessary: Catholics must turn out like the Orthodox Jews and vote; and they must vote to support the moral values of our Church, traditional values found in the Declaration of Independence, the foundation of our country and its rise to greatness.
Presence of a Brooklyn Nun
Dear Editor: I was delighted to read the article about Sister Anne Credidio (“Brooklyn Nun Reaches to Society’s Untouchables,” Oct. 17) and the work she is doing in Ecuador among the lepers. All who know her are touched by her goodness and generosity of spirit.
Esopus
Dear Editor: Since you requested that readers share a memory of a Religious Brother, I offer you this one.
Forty-one years ago last spring, three Marist Brothers of the Province of Esopus met to talk about an idea and a hope.

My father, Joseph Basler, has taken great comfort in all the nice things that have been said, and now written, about his brother. They have been deeply appreciated at the difficult time.
Republicans Miss Opportunity
Dear Editor: Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell says defunding Planned Parenthood, the abortion industry giant, will have to wait until 2017. A delay of 18 months means more than one million abortions will be performed during that time.
Right of Conscience
Dear Editor: Kim Davis, in the eyes of most, including myself, is not a hero, but she still has the right to conscientious objection. Listen to what Pope Francis had to say on his flight back from New York to Rome, not commenting on Davis specifically, but on the subject of conscientious objection: Speaking with […]
Francis Offers Great Hope
Dear Editor: In reply to Bob Fallon’s Letter (Oct. 10) which you headline “Fix the Church of Jesus,” we agree with Fallon’s assertion that Pope Francis has embarked vigorously upon this mission and ministry.
