Dear Editor: I know Tom Bowers (Readers’ Forum, Nov. 7) because he is my daughter-in-law’s grandfather. He is everything and more that Jean has described. An honorable and sweet man who doesn’t know the meaning of evil or unkind.

The Great Sister Estelle
Dear Editor: Sister Mary Estelle, R.S.M., (Obituaries, Nov. 21) was a wonderful lady. She was my homeroom teacher at Mater Christi H.S. Working beside her was always a joy.
Great Astoria Anniversary
Dear Editor: Such a wonderful occasion to celebrate Our Lady of Mount Carmel’s 175th anniversary in Astoria (Nov. 21)! My two sisters (Linda and Mary) and I attended OLMC school. We had the Sisters of St. Joseph teaching us. I graduated in January, 1955 (I went on to St Joseph’s H.S. in Downtown Brooklyn as did my two sisters; also being taught there by the Sisters of St. Joseph).
End-of-Life Decisions
Dear Editor: Thank you for reporting on “A Catholic Look at End of Life Issues,” (Nov. 12). It is a very important and all too avoided subject. Compassion and Choices (the agency directing the physician-assisted suicide movement) has run a tremendously successful campaign to devalue human life when its truly vulnerable – that is sinful.
The Cost to the Taxpayers
Dear Editor: During the debate about immigration several points are never discussed: the cost to the taxpayers of this country, especially the middle class, is enormous; free medical and dental; free education, even free tuition at our colleges to the children of aliens, who displace naturalized and native citizens; Section 8 housing, whereby the taxpayer pays 70 percent of the rent. The list goes on and on.
Ayn Rand Not the Devil
Dear Editor: The letter of Rick O’Conell (“Parade Never Discriminated,” Nov. 14) from the affluent neighborhood of Little Neck, attacks the Catholic Paul Ryan, accusing him of being an admirer of Ayn Rand.
Age Is Just a Number
Dear Editor: The very first line of the back-page article (“Lidia Opens Up Her Menus for the Popes,” Nov. 7) reads as such: “Lydia Bastianich, even at 68, is working like crazy.”
Questions About Refugees
Dear Editor: The Tablet cover story, Nov. 28, says “Catholics Back Refugee Resettlement,” and Bishop DiMarzio’s column is titled “Welcome The Strangers.”
Thrill of Seeing the Pope
Dear Editor: I just wanted to share a moment of unbelievable joy in my heart and soul about Pope Francis’ visit to Central Park in New York City
Great Class of Deacons
Dear Editor: Your Nov. 14 issue congratulated the 25th anniversary class of Brooklyn’s permanent deacons. It was my pleasure to teach Sacred Scripture to that class and it is my pleasure to congratulate them as well.
