Traveling from Brooklyn to Boston for Harvard University’s Spring Innovation Conference were three journalism students from Bishop Kearney H.S., Bensonhurst.
Freshmen Maritza Brutus, left, and Barbara Kay, right, attended the one-day media conference with sophomore Makayla Bullard, center. “It was great to learn more about how two of my interests, journalism and computer science, can be used together,” said Bullard. “Hearing from Computer Science majors at Harvard has strengthened my desire to study it in college.”
The event also focused on news from the print perspective as students dived into topics such as investigative and data journalism with The Harvard Crimson, the university’s daily student newspaper. The day also included a private tour of the university’s printing press, as well as a talk from keynote speaker Nkem Ifejika, who is a presenter on the BBC World Service Newsday program.
