Dear Editor: Your tribute to the late Bishop Thomas V. Daily was wonderful and proclaiming him the pro-life leader was right on. I attended the Mass of Christian Burial for Bishop Daily and found it to be spiritually uplifting.
About seven years ago, Bishop Daily would arrive at 7 a.m. on Saturdays at the All Women’s Health Pavilion, an abortion facility on Austin St. in Forest Hills. His chauffer, Rocco, would drop him off.
Members of the Helpers of God’s Precious Infants established by Msgr. Philip Reilly would pray outside the facility and offer help to women who were considering aborting their babies.
Bishop Daily would not stand still. He would walk up and down the street. We all parked our cars in front of the facility.
Donald, one of our counselors, had a silver convertible and he would leave to attend the 8 a.m. Mass at Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Church which is 10 blocks away. Bishop Daily asked Donald if he could ride with him. Bishop Daily was as happy as a kid because he said he never rode in a convertible and he loved how his hair blew around.
May he rest in peace!
On Saturdays, we still stand in a peaceful, prayerful witness to life at the same facility. Lives are saved and the way to conversion is open.
