Located in the heart of Astoria, Immaculate Conception School serves families with children from toddlers to teens and reflects the diversity of the surrounding community. The school’s mission is to provide every child with a safe and nurturing environment that facilitates a love of learning as well as a love for God, others and self.
Higher Order Thinking Skills
In addition to meeting the challenges of the Common Core Learning Standards, teachers are dedicated to ensuring that students develop the higher-order thinking skills needed to succeed in the 21st century.
The school also has instruction in music, art, computer and physical education, and students who struggle and who qualify are supported by a SETTS teacher and Title I Services. Two special programs, performing arts and Dancing Classrooms, develop the students’ creativity and their respect for themselves and others.
Catholic Identity
A Catholic identity is essential to Immaculate Conception School. Students from kindergarten through eighth grade have classes in religion with an age-appropriate curriculum. Praying is an important, and there are monthly services including Mass, rosary prayer, Stations of the Cross, Benediction and May Crowning of our Blessed Mother.
Immaculate Conception School teachers are trained catechists, but if students raise questions that they cannot answer, the parish priests address them during their weekly visits. This is truly a faith-filled community.
