Our Lady of Guadalupe School (OLG) is committed to its students’ futures. Founded nearly 100 years ago to serve the children of Bensonhurst, the school includes the typical kindergarten through eighth-grade enrollment but also has a preschool program for 3- and 4-year-old children.
Today’s students work in an environment with wireless Internet, state-of-the-art laptops, iPads and netbooks, and they engage in multimedia instruction with such educational tools as Mathletics, BrainPOP, Glogster and Learn360.
Parents can follow grades and assignments online and receive parent alerts about school closings and special events. OLG students have been recognized for their success in math bees, art competitions and essay contests.
What has never changed, however, is the school’s Catholic identity. Students are actively involved in the preparation of First Friday and special liturgies and learn to serve others through participation in the Mission Club and Gift-Giving. Leadership is joined to service by participation in Student Council and the Safety Patrol, as well as membership in audio/visual, computer and lab assistant programs. Members of the two student choral groups and the Tone Chime Choir perform at local community events and parish celebrations.
Graduates continue to be awarded full and partial scholarships to high school, while earning recognition as writers, artists, athletes and scholars. A long list of successful alumni includes physicians, attorneys, educators and business people.
Every student at OLG is encouraged to reach his or her potential in an atmosphere that encourages lifelong learning.
