Back to School 2014 – TACHS Preparation

The Test for Admissions into Catholic High Schools (TACHS) is taken by all eighth graders who wish to apply and attend a Catholic high school.

As an important factor for admission, a strong TACHS score can help a student get into the Catholic high school of their choice and increase the possibility of scholarships.

This year’s TACHS exam for the Diocese of Brooklyn/Queens is on Saturday, Nov. 8, 2014 for Fall 2015 admittance to Catholic high schools.

Christ the King Continuing Education has taken the lead in preparing students for this important exam. The TACHS preparatory class provides students with the tools needed to perform better by fostering and reinforcing core skills such as vocabulary building, enhancing math skills and improving reading and English language arts skills.

The TACHS Program at Christ the King Continuing Education provides parents and students with two separate options to choose from to best fit their needs:

• Option 1: TACHS Preparatory Class. Students are placed in separate math and English classes with experienced teachers. Class schedules are offered on two tracks: Weeknight Class, Tuesdays and Wednesdays, 5:30 to 7 p.m. from Sept. 30 to Nov. 5, or Saturday Class, 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. from Sept. 20 to Nov. 1. The cost of this course option is $255 and includes all books and course material.

• Option 2: One-on-One TACHS tutoring with a teacher. This plan allows the student individual time with an experienced teacher and lets the student learn at his or her own pace with a customized program and schedule. The cost of a private tutor is $45 per hour with a one-hour minimum.

Parents of all Christ the King Continuing Education’s TACHS registrants are invited to an exclusive seminar aimed at better understanding the high school application process. This informative seminar will be held on Sept. 20 at 9 a.m. on Christ the King Campus, located at 68-02 Metropolitan Ave., Middle Village.

For over 25 years, Christ the King Continuing Education has been providing students in its community with various services to help them succeed.

  1. can you please provide me with a list of schools in Brooklyn that offer Saturday tach prep classes? My son is the 7th grade, and would like to be prepared.

    1. Dear Ms. Fitzpatrick,
Thank you for your excellent question. Unfortunately, The Tablet does not have a comprehensive listing at this time. Please contact your local Catholic high schools to find out their individual offerings. Good luck to you and to your son! Peace, Marie Elena
