St. Gabriel’s Celebrates Parish Feast with Passion

St. Gabriel parish, East Elmhurst, celebrated its feast day Feb. 25 with a sharing of joy and passion. It was standing room only for the Mass of thanksgiving celebrated in Spanish by Auxiliary Bishop Neil Tiedemann, C.P.

Washington Bishop Preaches at Black History Liturgy

“Evil is contagious but so is Goodness,” said Auxiliary Bishop Roy Campbell of Washington, D.C., as he addressed the Mass of thanksgiving celebrated Feb. 17 at the Immaculate Conception Center, Douglaston, to celebrate Black History Month.

Bishop Massa Visits Floral Park School

The bishop blessed the students and thanked the teachers for their work. Students had been working on decorations all school year and were very proud to finally be able to show off all of their work. He told the students he considered them all family and was excited to meet them.

Courage to Continue King’s Legacy

The diocesan Vicariate of Black Catholic Concerns hosted its annual praise and prayer service celebration in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. at Our Lady of Victory Church, Bedford-Stuyvesant, Jan. 15.

Haitians Mark Independence

The 214th Celebration of Freedom took place Jan. 1 at SS. Joachim and Anne Church in Queens Village, with an afternoon Mass marking Haitian Independence Day. The Mass was said in Creole and followed by a festive luncheon featuring the pumpkin-based soup, Joumou.

Reaching Out Provides Bright Christmas for Kids

Reaching Out Community Services presented its 12th annual Operation Christmas Smiles Spectacular Events Dec. 16 at St. Mary, Mother of Jesus Church, Bensonhurst. It is one of many parish and community groups helped at Christmas by The Tablet’s Bright Christmas Campaign.
