Dear Editor: Bishop DiMarzio and the U.S. Bishops are courageously addressing the sin of racism.

This is a view from a five-year-old. My daughter Laura is expecting. Her due date is at the end of January.

She has twins who are five years old. They started kindergarten this September. She has another daughter who is two-and-a-half.

Laura waited until she had her four-month doctor’s check-up that included a sonogram before telling the three girls about the new baby. She told them after Labor Day. The sonogram shows that she will have a girl. She showed the picture of the sonogram to the girls and the girls said, “Oh, Mommie is having a baby!”

Laura asked them what did they think th new baby would be. They sadly said, “A boy.” She next asked, “What do you want the baby to be.” They said loudly, “A girl!”

Laura told them that the baby is a girl and they were happy and thrilled that they will have a new baby sister. They said that they couldn’t wait to tell all their teachers and friends at school that they will have a new baby sister.

Emily, one of the twins, was very excited and said, “I can’t wait to meet my baby sister and I can’t wait to see if she comes out black or white!”
