Sister Anna Mildred Desiderio, C.S.J., a Sister of St. Joseph, Brentwood, L.I., for 64 years, died in Maria Regina Residence, Brentwood, Oct. 21.

She entered the congregation in 1953 from St. Patrick parish, Bay Ridge. She earned her degree in secondary education from St. Joseph College, followed by a master’s in educational administration from Manhattan College.
Formerly known as Sister Mary Sarto, she taught at Holy Cross, Flatbush, 1955-61; Our Lady of Mount Carmel, Long Island City, 1961-63; Holy Child Jesus, Richmond Hill, 1963-68; and Stella Maris H.S., Rockaway Park, 1968-79.
After serving as assistant principal at St. Angela Hall Academy, Clinton Hill, 1979-80, she went on to serve as principal at St. Athanasius, Bensonhurst, 1980-87; Our Lady of Miracles, Canarsie, 1987-2000, and Sacred Hearts-St. Stephen, Carroll Gardens, 2000-05.
In 2005, she began her ministry as coordinator of St. Joseph Convent, Brentwood, and served in that role until she retired in 2013.
A Mass of Christian Burial took place in Maria Regina Chapel Oct. 25. Interment followed in Calvary Cemetery, Brentwood.
