October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, so the student-athletes at St. Edmund Prep H.S., Sheepshead Bay, took part in a series of events to raise awareness.
A student vs. faculty volleyball game completed the fundraising events, in which all of the school’s girls’ sports teams participated.
The cheerleaders took part in the Prospect Park Breast Cancer Walk Oct. 16 and have been selling ribbons at school lunch periods. The step team held a bake sale to help the cause.
On Oct. 14, the school’s junior varsity and varsity girls’ volleyball teams hosted St. John’s Prep, Astoria, in “Dig Pink” games in support of breast cancer research. All game admission, raffles and concession sales were donated to breast cancer-related charities.
The girls’ soccer team ran a “Kick Out Breast Cancer” fundraiser, which raised over $2,500.
In all, the school expects to give over $5,000 to breast cancer-related charities this fall.
